The values of coconut oil

coconut oil can be used for a variety of things, such as; a hair mask, face and body moisturizer, cuticle oil, sunscreen, and so much more. i personally use coconut oil as a hair mask and face moisturizer. i purchased my carrington farms coconut oil from costco for about $25.

coocnut oil

i wash my hair every 2-3 days, but i notice when i tend to straighten it too much, my ends become fried and very dry. i began to try multiple oil treatments to get my hair looking healthy again. i would try products and they wouldn’t work, but withing two days my hair would be dry again. so i decided to give coconut oil a try.

after purchasing the coconut oil, i began to use this method:

i wash my hair with a little shampoo and handfuls of conditioner (i have naturally curly hair). after this i dry my hair so it is not completely soaking wet, i get about a tablespoon of coconut oil and place it in the palm of my hands (may need more or less depending on length of hair). when putting the coconut oil in your palms the oil will become a liquid consistency due to the warmth of your hands. some people may separate their hair into sections, but i don’t see the need to do that, i just begin to distribute the oil evenly throughout my hair concentrating on the ends. then i grab my comb and starting from my roots i comb down to my ends this helps to make sure that the coconut oil was distributed! then i make a high ponytail, braid my hair, and pin it up so it does not touch my face. to prevent the oil from getting everywhere, i would recommend putting a shower cap on while sleeping! in the morning your hair should have absorbed the oil. wash your hair twice to make sure you get all of the oil out, or you will up up with greasy hair! (no one wants that!) after you wash your hair, it should feel soft and look healthier.

try this out and let me know what you beauties think! i try to do this hair mask once a week depending on how much i straighten my hair.

give it a try!!!

coconut oil as a face moisturizer

as a person who has acne problems i am always very skeptical on using new products on my skin. i figured coconut oil is healthy to eat, i could use it on my skin. here is how i apply coconut oil as a face moisturizer:

i wash my face with my neutrogena wipes (this is really just to take off my makeup), then i use my prescription topical wash. i gently pat my face dry, then apply my toner (which is also from neutrogena) with a cotton ball. once the toner dries i get about a dime size amount of coconut oil, let that liquefy and then distribute an even layer onto my face and on my neck. normally i apply the coconut oil at night, but this is just my personal preference. you can use it morning and night if you choose.

after i have had the coconut oil on all night, i gently wash my face with luke warm water == i gently pat my face dry, apply my morning moisturizer which is for the brand simple. — a little goes a long way (highly recommended). it is not a heavy moisturizer and makes my skin feel refreshed.

my face feels soft and hydrated after i have finished my morning routine! surprisingly i have not had any breakouts with the coconut oil, thankfully!

thanks for reading!

  1. Aloha Alexandria,

I just read your blog post and it seems that we are both crazy about coconut oil and its different ways of using it:-). I also love to use it as a deep penetrating, hot hair mask.

I have written a blog post on how I changed my hair care routine USING THE POWER OF COCONUT oil and how my hair started to grow longer and healthier.

I always associate the sweet smell of coconut with vacation (here in Hawai’i I feel like it is vacation everyday ;-)) and a sexy, natural ‘sunkissed goddess’ tan.

I have posted a blog post today on my ‘holy grail product that gives you this absolute sunkissed, golden and healthy tan .

Check it out and follow me if you are interested:-)

I will also cover in my next blog posts interesting topics such as my 60lbs weight loss journey (and hopefully motivate and inspire you to become the healthiest and strongest you :-)) beauty, fitness, different places around our little planet and different types of cuisines.

I hope to see you on my blog:-)

    Have a lovely day!
